United Way Christmas Adopt-A-Family Program The United Way of Butte & Glenn Counties' Adopt-A-Family Program provides a way for businesses and organizations to use their resources to help needy families in our community during the holiday season. We will have a history as to why the family is in need, plus the sex, names, and sizes of the children. Each family will be screened by United Way as having a need, after being referred initially from a credible agency. Each family should be provided with a food basket to sufficiently feed the family for approximately two weeks. United Way hopes that your generosity would include such foods as staple items, nutritious juices, cereals, etc., as well as Christmas dinner turkey and trimmings. Please do not provide your family with food items that have expired dates on them. We would request the expiration dates be at least three to six months past December of 2004. "Out of date" foods are susceptible to spoilage and food poisoning. Each child should receive at least one gift, wrapped and ready for Christmas. If you make a commitment to provide for a needy family, it is vitally important that you meet the obligation. The Christmas boxes or baskets will be distributed to the recipients the afternoon of December 19, 2004. Please have your baskets and packages ready and delivered to the distribution center no later than noon of the 19th. You will be notified of the distribution center address in our next communique after you commit to this worthy project. It is imperative that the boxes or baskets be of a size that can be handled with ease in order to be transported. Each box must have the assigned family number on it.
